Do You Know The Way?

Do You Know The Way?

“Jesus told him, ‘I AM the way and the truth and the life.’” John 14:6

Have you ever been so lost that no GPS assistance or directions made sense? I admit that I have been directionaly challenged on many trips. Even with a GPS voice telling me “in two miles take exit 33 ... go past this roundabout and take the third right ...” I still have to glance at my blue dot moving on the illustrated map. Why?? I studied the way earlier, and believed GPS would provide a truthful solution to a directional need. But I still doubted!

The roads of life can get many of us lost and cause doubts. We doubt our abilities. Our trust wavers – in ourselves and maybe family members, friends or co-workers. Those insecurities cause us to forget the truths that exist in our lives. The fact that previous experiences led to successes, the reality that we are surrounded by loving people who want the best for us, and the ultimate Truth that GOD doesn’t want us to be on this journey alone.

As Jesus finished the “last supper” with his closest friends, their heads must have been directionally challenged, and hearts anxious at a journey moving so quickly. One of their co-laborers rushed out on his path of betrayal. And the seemingly decisive Peter was just told that he would soon deny Jesus. These can’t be the directions taking them to the promised destination!

Jesus reassured them to “not be troubled” (John 14:1) that even though He was soon departing this world they would not be lost. Jesus said He was going to “prepare a place” (v. 3). A place of peace, rest and safety. “How can we know the way” (v. 5), Thomas asked timidly as the doubts in his head began to steal the desire of his heart to believe.

The reality is that this life drops many uncertainities on us, that in human understanding don’t make sense and seem to lead down a dead-end path. But the promise Jesus shared with the Disciples that night that He would send a “Counselor...to be with you forever, the Spirit of truth” (v.16-17), is available to guide us today.

Jesus said “My peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives” (v.27). I pray that you will listen to His Way and believe the Truth of Jesus as He directs you on this journey. Jesus has prepared the best destination of eternal Life for all who choose to follow Him.
