Where will we go?

Where will we go?

“I AM the Way the Truth and the Life.” John 14:6

“How can we know the way?” That question asked by Thomas, one of the early followers of Jesus, is something we all seek in life. Today, even with GPS, I’m regretably still challenged to believe the humanoid is telling me the right way to get to the unfamiliar destination. Thomas was seeking a more crucial set of directions and confirmation. The joy and hope that he and the other disciples saw in Jesus and clung to, was now turning to doubt and confusion as He talked about leaving them. The promise of comfort and togetherness was being torn apart.

“What will I do on my own now?”
“How will I have the strength to get through my illness?”
“What will my life look like without him after all these years?”

Those questions we ask to situations in this life are similar to what Thomas, Peter, Andrew, John, Martha and other followers surely asked. But during His last days on earth, Jesus was building their faith and confidence that He is the only solution. Jesus had to leave in order to fulfill the plan His Father set in motion to rescue mankind from sin and death. Jesus knew his purpose and fulfilled it.

I am not a Biblical scholar or historian I’m just a sinner saved by grace who daily seeks to follow Jesus and believe His promises. As far as I know, Jesus is the only person in human history to claim that He is the Way to forgiveness, peace and eternal life. Not one of multiple ways or methods, but the only Way. As you prepare to celebrate Easter, revisit the question Thomas asked and trust Jesus to be the Way to help you fulfill your purpose in this life and safe arrival into the next life that He promised.
